Round 2

So like I said in class, I’m pretty much tired of reading and maybe it’s for that same reason that I am racing through this book. I’ve really never been able to focus on reading in class and I somehow got through a shitload of pages today. Most of what I read was interesting, but nothing really caught my eye. I can’t complain about the book itself because I must admit, it is very well written and it is also entertaining at moments.
I suppose I’ll have to find something to talk about to get me to that range of 300-400 words so I will make a text-to-text comparison between this novel and my term paper novel, On the Road. Firstly, I love the way that the narrator speaks in the novel. He does not really sugarcoat anything and he literally tells you…I smoked some dope, then I got wasted, then I fucked her, and repeated everything again the next day. I also find it hilarious how he really gets into the thought process of a young adolescent. Maybe the novel isn’t as relatable to a lot of girls, but as a guy (well at least most guys), I’m pretty sure anybody would take up the offer of just being able to sit back, smoke some weed, and have sex every day of your life. That’s pretty much Tony’s teenage years right there. And that gets me to my next point…On the Road…Dean and Tony would be best friends. Dean reminds me so much of the narrator because not only are they both players, but they are both complete badasses. The one major difference in my opinion is that Kerouac doesn’t really get into the mind of Dean whereas The Sense of an Ending offers an omniscient point of view where we really get to analyze Tony’s thoughts. I apologize if some of my wording didn’t make real sense because I just really need some sleep right now so I may sound a little loopy. Overall, though, I must say that this is a nice way (since it is a requirement to be reading in the first place) to finish off with literature this year before getting into the essays.
