Last night's post
Although I have not yet started reading The Sense of an Ending, I have been told that it is a much easier read than the past literature we have been assigned. In all honesty, I never minded the length or depth of the previous books we have read. I have always liked reading and a lengthy book has never discouraged me from wanting read or continue reading. With that said, knowing that Julian Barnes is a British author is intriguing to me. I have always loved British literature above everything else and I am excited to begin reading this particular novel. From what my classmates have told me, the characters are knowingly pretentious, yet their pretentiousness is somewhat charming in a way. I love when authors can make their readers fall in love with unlikable characters. It gives the book a sense of authenticity, because in reality, not everybody is perfect. I hope that the characters are relatable, because that is one of the biggest problems I had with some of the books we read earlier this year. I was never able to identify with any of the main characters because none of them were that relatable to me, personally. Hopefully I can find something I have in common with one of the characters in The Sense of an Ending. The best thing about shorter novels is that they pack so much in their pages, as far as emotional depth, that you end up feeling like you have read a book several times longer than it actually is. The idea behind the book seems original and interesting and I am excited to see where it leads me. I have only heard good things about Barnes and his novel so, hopefully, my expectations will be met and I will not be disappointed with the outcome of the story.
